The exact measurement of a British Thermal Unit is the amount of heat that it takes to heat one pound (approx one pint) of water by one degree and is measured at the amount of energy to make the 1lb of water heat from 39 Degrees Farenheit up to 40 (It can take slightly more or less energy to heat water by one degree fahrenheit depending upon the starting temperature)
